COVID-19

USA I got you on your knees!
Empty accounts, empty streets.
Your kings fearful
Despite their power, their wealth
Your vulnerable dying
Consuming those in declining health.

Your millions made useless, afraid with blunted yearnings
Confined to isolation and cages, devoid of any earnings.
Your nose red with PPE, face covered, eyes filled with fear
For those dying, how lonely, not a loved one’s cry nor tear.
HA! HA!
“Catch me if you can”

Yes you are a killer,
Of body but not of spirit.
Yes you are a killer,
Of wealth but not of grit.
Isolated we may be, yet together alone
We found our family above your lethal groan.

You ticked off the wrong country! For you, I have a little surprise.
My ingenuity, my resolve, my enterprise!
Will catch you, we are the land of the bold.
And we will choke you with a stranglehold
So you never again stalk the human race
Never to bully, never to show your ugly face.

Thanks to my health workers, my businesses who never slip
You may devastate now, yet in history you’ll be a mere blip.
It’s spring time…I see the buds, green leaves will soon cover this barren tree
I will stand tall again, raise my hand
And of your fear, be free.

COURAGE

“Live your life based on your strengths and not on your fears”

I wrote this poem in the middle of the pandemic, after seeing the fear in the eyes of a frontline healthcare worker coming out of the COVID unit in the hospital where I work.
