About the poet

After a lifetime as a heart surgeon, I looked for life beyond surgery, and found it in the form of writing poetry. Along the way I have pursued success in business, along with a very earnest attempt at being a family man. I can sum it all in this little quote:

“I love my profession, as it allows me to save lives.
I love my business, as it allows me to build lives.
I love my family, as they allow me to live a life.
I love writing poetry, as it allows me to feel life.”

As a surgeon, I appreciate the importance of the heart’s steady rhythm as a protector of life. Similarly, I find rhyming a pivotal component of poetic expression. The emotions in my poems are the sound bytes from my mind and the world around me, expressed in a deeply personal and unedited way. Many of the thoughts are my own, but some are borrowed from various people and I have tried to identify those to the best of my ability.

I hope you enjoy my work and find some lines that can help you feel life in a different way. Don’t forget to stay in touch as there is more to come!

This picture is from 1980, when I was a surgical resident at S.U.N.Y. in Syracuse, New York.
